Book Nook: Anthem

Hey Lovelies!

So I recently read a book for my English class that was an interesting take on dystopian societies and thought I would share my experience with you all.  Please keep in mind that these are my own opinions and are simply my take on this novel.

Having stated that, I want to start off by telling you all that I very much disliked this book and thought it was a complete waste of time.  No, it is not because this was an assigned reading with work that cam attached to it.  I typically enjoy reading books from school, but this novel was honestly lacking.  The teacher asked us not to judge it based on the fact that there were many current dystopian stories in the media today and that this book was going to be different.  If anything this book only contained the predictable elements of common dystopian novels.

First, you get the person that stands out from society and considers themselves different from everyone else.  Then there is the way he discovers everything, very boring and unexciting, he sits all day in an underground subway tunnel.  Not one bit of action is evident in the entire book!  Finally we reach the end where (a) his lover seeks him out and follows him, (b) the "word" mentioned throughout the novel is a complete let down, and (c) it ends with the word and leaves you asking "What? No plot twist or exciting fights?".

For those reasons listed above, I very much disliked reading this novel.  Not to say you won't enjoy it because my peers were quite fond of the story and wanted to learn more about the author.  BTW: I did my background research, out of curiosity, and understand why the author wrote the novel she did, or at least the mindset of the novel, but I don't understand why she made such an unoriginal story.

If you have read this novel before, let me know what you thought in the comments below!

TMI Tag! Part 1

Hey Lovelies!

Today I thought to do something a bit funner and something that would let you all get to know me a bit better!  So lets get started:

1. What are you wearing?
I am wearing a purple workout top from Khols with a striped sports bra and some yoga shorts.  I also have on my old Champion running shoes.

2. Ever been in love?
Not really. I love my family and my friends, but I have never been "in love".

3. Ever had a terrible breakup?
No.  You can't have a terrible breakup if you have never been in a relationship.

4. How tall are you?
I am almost 4'10".  Yeah, I'm really, really short.

5. How much do you weigh?
I am between 85 and 90 pounds.  Please remember that I am really short, so my weight is much less than people with more body mass.

6. Any tattoos?

7. Any piercings?
I have both my first earlobes pierced.

8. OTP?
I love Matt and Kayleigh as well as Niki and Jerry and Gabi and Brandon.  All of these couples are from YouTube, they are some of the best examples of real life, successful relationships.

9. Favorite show?
I have a tie between two shows - Suits and House.  Suits is my current obsession and I have watched it since it first came out and House has just always been something I enjoy.

10. Favorite bands?
One Republic, The Script, Rend Collective, Imagine Dragons, and MKTO.

11. Something you miss?
I really miss my family in Puerto Rico with all my heart.  I usually visit them during the summer but I was unable to this year, so I really miss them.

12. Favorite song?
Classic by MKTO or My Lighthouse by Rend Collective.

13. How old are you?
I am fifteen and a half! Yay.

14. Zodiac sign?

15. Quality you look for in a partner?
Someone who is a gentleman.  A lot of people think being funny and kindness is important, but, in my opinion, a gentleman entails all of those qualities and more.

16. Favorite quote?
I really like the Bible verse Philippians 4:13 as well as the quote by Benjamin Franklin that states, "Never leave that 'till tomorrow which you can do today."

17. Favorite actor?
That would be a tie between Hugh Laurie and Gabriel Macht.

18. Favorite color?
I LOVE the color light purple.  Like a lilac color, that's my favorite color of all time!

19. Loud music or soft?
It honestly depends.  When I do schoolwork I listen to soft classical music, but otherwise I blast out loud music and just jam out! ;D

20. Where do you go when you're sad?
Whenever I am sad I typically go to my bed or somewhere calm, quiet, and lonely.

21. How long does it take you to shower?
If I am doing everything, including my hair, shaving, exfoliating, etc. it takes me like a half hour.  Otherwise I take five to ten minute showers.

22. How long does it take to get ready in the morning?
Including breakfast, clothing, and waking myself up, I take about a half hour.

23. Ever been in a physical fight?

24. Turn on?
Like I said, someone that is a gentleman is a must, for me, but I think a "turn on" would be someone super funny and who understands me and my sense of humor.

25. Turn off?
I cannot stand hypocrites!!! If you tell me not to get a cookie from the cookie jar, you better not get a cookie from the cookie jar.

That is all for today's post.  There will be a part 2 coming up soon.

OOTD: Back to Black

Hello Lovelies!

I don't typically wear too much black because I really enjoy playing around with color.  But this outfit is super cute and I just had to share.

My top is from Kohl's, they no longer sell it, but you can find similar peplum blouses in many other retailers.  The dark wash skinny jeans are from 579.  Ballet flats are very old and can no longer be found, but are another staple that can be found in many stores.  The purse I am wearing is a creme and navy blue bag is from Target.

Have a great day.

Getting Myself Organized

Hey Lovelies!

Quick update post for you all:

Just wanted to let you all know that I am working very hard to balance my life of school, blogging, chores, exercise, and my personal life.  If you haven't noticed my post have been a bit more consistent recently and I am working very hard to make the best possible material for all of my readers.

One really important aspect of my life is my religion and my relationship with God.  It has affected me, especially lately, and it is just another thing to add to my list of things to worry about.  I know that it seems difficult to understand, but I have been trying to simply be a better person.  The thought seems so simple, but changing everyday habits and instinctive thoughts is difficult and really makes me have to think on a constant basis.

For now, my top six priorities as of this moment are:

1. God
2. Family
3. Education
4. Blog
5. Exercise
6. Sewing

Please bear with me as I try to deal with everything going on, I have been trying to manage my time wisely.  It is difficult being a full time student {as stated in my previous blog post} but I know that if others can do it, so can I.

So, Do You Get Paid?

Hey Lovelies!

A lot of people ask me what I mean when I say I have to work.  I tell them that blogging is my job.  Instinctively they always ask me if I make any money and how much I make.

Well, that's the thing.  I don't get paid to blog.  A lot of my favorite bloggers are sponsored and get paid enough to make a living for themselves.  It seems like the best job in the entire world!  But this is not something I do, or have continued to do because I have a paycheck  to look forward to each month.

I genuinely enjoy blogging, it is one of the only things that decreases my stress and allows me to share my thoughts with the world.  It has been difficult recently to blog as much as I would like to and do really sit down and work on my writing, but I have never neglected my blog.

It has been a little more than half a year since I began blogging.  One of the things I have noted is that when I blog more, I stress less, and I honestly feel happier.

Please don't think that this is something I do for money, or for praise, or for attention.  I blog because I LOVE BLOGGING!!!

Thank you for everyone that has continued to follow my posts and has supported my blog from the beginning.  It has helped me gain a sense of who I am so much and I thank you for continuing to allow me to share my thoughts on everything!

Have a super, awesome, spectacular day!

xoxo, Ana

My Favorite YouTubers

Hey Lovelies!

So as you may or may not know, I have always been a fan of YouTube and have always wanted a channel since YouTube first began.  Although I was never able to pursue my dream {maybe one day} I still really enjoy watching YouTube videos.  I wanted to share with you guys my favorite YouTubers and why they are my favorites.

They are not in any order just because I really enjoy watching all of them. So lets get started.

~ 1 ~
Bubbi is the first YouTuber that I watched and I cannot believe she is still making videos and living such an amazing life.  I have followed her from the very beginning.  She taught me almost everything I know about makeup and she really made me want to be a better, healthier, kinder person.  I can always recall wanting her huge strawberry pillow in the background of her old videos.

~ 2 ~
These girls are basically me in two people.  I started watching them almost two years ago and I fell in LOVE.  Gabi was the first person to introduce me to Pinterest and I cannot thank her enough.  Niki has such a similar personality to me, but I also feel like I have a similar personality to Gabi and we definetly share the same style.  I also like that they are Catholics and I really relate to them.

~ 3 ~
Kayleigh Noelle
I have been watching her for about a year now, not too long, but I have honestly learned a great deal from her and her boyfriend Matt.  Their vlogs make me smile and show me what kind of relationship I want in the future.  If I could I would do my makeup exactly like hers, she just applies it so flawlessly and is genuine in personality.  I really enjoy her videos.

~ 4 ~
There is no explaining how much this girl has influenced my life.  I was going through a very difficult, stressful time when I first encountered her videos.  She taught me to love life, be the best person I can be, and to be grateful to God for the life I have been given.  Bree is honestly the person I go to watch when I feel like my life is falling apart.  She also made me really get into fitness and health, so you can thank her for that.

~ 5 ~
If you do not watch her videos, you are missing out on an amazing, funny, bubbly, awesome person. I enjoy her minimalist attitude and how she is not afraid to be herself.  One of my favorite things about her videos is that (a) I have been watching her since she was still in school, (b) she is really honest, and (c) she looks and tells you about high quality products.  I just really enjoy watching her and I definitely see a bit of myself in her.

I love that all of these girls/ladies have such different personalaitites and yet I can gain something from them all.  They all have beauty/fashion channels but honestly those are the only videos that I watch on a consistent basis because I can learn a lot from them.

Let me know what your favorite YouTubers are in the comments below.

Life as a Full Time Student

Hey Lovelies!

I have been working super hard to get all of my school work completed, be a dedicated member of my organizations, and working on my blog.  It has been a bit difficult managing my time, but I have learned to focus on my priorities and balance time to myself, time with others, and time to do work.

Sometimes it is difficult to manage being a student with having a personal life outside of school, but I think this week is going to be much of a smoother transition.  Honestly I have wondered if I want to quit my blog but it is something that I love and it makes me happy!

What is life like as a full time student?

Life as a full time student is harder and more stressful than most jobs out there.  We have to balance a lot of things at once: studies, after school activities, family, friends, growing up, and making mistakes in order to grow.

I have been working on trying to get into Raiders, an after school program in JROTC that pushes student's physical limits.  Not only that but I am also participating in other clubs and organizations.

One of the most important things for me, personally, has been to ensure that God is still a big part of my life.  Sometimes this is difficult to do because we live in a society where religion is not something that is constantly on people's minds.  This may be a bit TMI but going back to school has really made me go estranged, spiritually.  But I am working hard to really allow myself time to spend with God and to spend time trying to relax myself and focus on  what is positive in my life.

Otherwise, cleaning and organizing is another struggle most students have.  Most of the time we come home and have to do hours of homework plus chores.  It has been something that is also always on my mind and I try my very best to clean my room and keep it tidy, but it is not the easiest thing!

So, how is back to school for you guys? Let me know in the comments below, even if you aren't a student, it is always interesting to see different points of view.

Have a wonderful day!

xoxo, Ana

Back to School: Time Management

Hello Lovelies!

I'm so sorry that I have not been posting recently, I have been going back to school and it has been a very difficult transition from summer to full on work mode!  Honestly, I have learned a lot over the past few days and they have been very enlightening.  Quick update: I have had to reteach myself to manage my time, I joined some after school activities (yay!), and my shoulder is in a lot of pain due to an injury.

Anyways, I have learned so much about time management over the past couple of weeks.  Don't get me wrong, I should probably follow more of these tips myself.  This year is going to be one of the most academically and emotionally challenging years for myself and for a lot of people out there, and time management is so important!

One of the most important aspects, in my opinion, of time management is to have something to do that makes you busy.  A lot of people are going to tell you to get involved and do things in school, and until last year I would disagree.  I was that student that didn't do anything and was not involved in class events, clubs, organizations, etc. and I regret it so much.  Not only are these great and amazing ways to have fun but they also force you to take time out of your day to do something.  These activities force you to really work efficiently so that you can participate in the events, have good grades, and still sleep between eight to 10 hours every night.

With that said, here are some of my time management tips:

~ 1 ~
Make a list and stick to it!
Write down all of your assignments in a planner or notebook so that you don't forget what to do.  Always work around your schedule to make time for studying as well, not just doing assignments.  When you have completed the task you can them cross it off your list, which causes a satisfactory feeling and is proven to keep you motivated.

~ 2 ~
Say No!!!
No phones, no laptop, no YouTube, no distractions. Period.  I know that it is easy to say, "I can watch Netflix while I outline. It's multitasking."  Well, guess what, the human brain isn't capable of focusing and absorbing information of multiple things at once.  So just say no!

~ 3 ~
You can never get back the time you lost.
One thing we fail to realize is that time is precious and this second is the only second we have.  If you decide to spend your time poorly it will reflect in your work and in your appearance.  Be responsible for the choices you make and prioritize.  If you can finish something today, do it! If you can study for a test that is a week away, do it!  You won't regret positive choices.

~ 4 ~
Don't overwhelm yourself.
I know I said to join clubs and be an active member of your community, but that does not mean you should bombard yourself with things to do.  Remember to reward yourself respectively for the work you do.  If something is too much of a commitment for you, drop it.

~ 5 ~
Just get your stuff done!
We all do it, we sit at our desk, staring at our to do list thinking this is too much.  In fact I get anxiety attacks just thinking about the immense workload I have sometimes.  So take a deep breath, and take things one step at a time.  The hardest part is starting, so just start!

I hope this helps you out!  Thank you so much for visiting my blog, I love all of my wonderful readers!

xoxo, Ana
